As a leader Michel Herr has progressively re-oriented its activities to writing these days (composing and arranging). Here are some bands (from the trio to the big band) he has led a few years ago : Michel Herr & Life Lines A nine piece band featuring his own compositions and arrangements, with top Belgian jazzmen : Steve Houben (alsto sax & flute), Bert Joris or Gino Lattuca (trumpet), Fabrice Alleman (ten/sop sax), Phil Abraham (trombone), Marcus Bartelt (bari sax), Jacques Pirotton (guitar), Sal La Rocca or Sam Gerstmans (double bass) and Bruno Castellucci or Dré Pallemaerts (drums). The Michel Herr European Quintet With Bert Joris (trumpet, Wolfgang Engstfeld (tenor sax), Riccardo Del Fra or Philippe Aerts (double bass) and Dré Pallemaerts (drums). As the main arranger Ivan Paduart + Metropole Orchestra Michel Herr wrote many arrangements on Ivan Paduart's compositions for this ambitious project, which combines Ivan Paduart (p/B), Fay Claassen (vocals/NL), Bob Malach (tenor sax/USA) and the 55 musicians of the prestigious Metropole Orchestra (NL) conducted by Jim McNeely (USA). As the main arranger, and composer Fabrice Alleman Quartet + Chamber Orchestra Michel Herr wrote the arrangements for this project which combines the quartet of Belgian saxophonist Fabrice Alleman and a large chamber orchestra.
